Senior Services
Gilliam County Special Transportation was started around the year of 1987 with a few volunteers that had a dream and Oregon Public Transit had the funding. In the first years the system operated with volunteers driving in their personal car to transport seniors that needed rides for medical.
Gilliam County Special Transportation has all Volunteer drivers. We currently have available in the fleet 3 ADA busses, and 3 mini vans that are split between Arlington and Condon. In addition a vehicle was purchased to accomodate medically fragile passengers. These vehicles are available for seniors, People with Disabilities and with space available to the general public. This is a service for medical, shopping, social trips, or business. We travel to several different locations Monday through Friday with variations of hours to meet the needs of the county residents. Please call as soon as you know of a need to travel, we need at least 36 hours in advance to set up for your appointments (call 541-384-2252 or 1-877-253-1645).
Senior Meal Sites are located in Arlington and Condon; the Arlington meal site is open on Tuesday at noon in the basement of the Masonic Hall (call 454-2010). Condon meal site is open on Thursday at noon in the basement of the United Church of Christ. We deliver take-out meals to the seniors who cannot make it to the meals at the sites.
