County Clerk
The County Clerk is a non-partisan elected position. The Deputy Clerk is appointed by the
County Clerk. Statutorily mandated duties have been noted with an (*) below; however, in
Gilliam County the Clerk is also responsible for additional county administration duties.

Duties & Services

  • County payroll
  • Personnel files
  • Accounts Payable
  • County Homestead Rebate Checks: Print and mail approximately 600 checks
  • Recording of deeds, mortgages, liens, miscellaneous*
  • Elections: Conduct elections, administer election boards, print ballots*
  • Voter Registration Maintenance: Keep voter file purged and updated*
  • Custodian of records and files of the County Court
  • Custody of important Court related materials
  • Probate Records: Index and file for permanent record*
  • Juvenile Records: Index and file for record*
  • Adoption Records: Index and file for permanent record*
  • Board of Equalization Clerk: Record and write minutes, notify petitioners and board of current events*
  • Survey Filings: Index and file for permanent record*
  • Law Library: Administer funds, order and file new volumes
  • Marriage Licenses: Issue licenses, solemnize marriages, index and file for permanent record*
  • County Registrar: File and record all birth and deaths within the county, then submit to Vital Statistics*
Recording Fee Increase for Gilliam County Clerk's Office
EFFECTIVE June 2, 2018, real estate recording fees will increase by $40.00. The 2018 Legislature passes HB 4007 which requires the County Clerk to collect $60 per document (previously $20 per document) to be deposited in the State of Oregon Housing and Community Services Departments accounts for housing related programs. This will cause most one page real estate recording documents to go from $46.00 to $86.00. This includes but is not limited to Deeds, Mortgages, Liens, Powers of Attorney and Death Certificates recorded for real estate purposes.
