Gilliam County is updating the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. Mitigation plans outline community risk to natural hazards and potential actions the County can take to reduce risks to people, property and the local economy BEFORE the next wildfire or winter storm, etc. strikes. The Cities of Arlington, Lonerock, and Condon are creating locally specific action plans as well.
The Natural Hazards Mitigation plan identifies local hazards and actions that might address them. The local planning committee recently updated the hazard priorities for the County, seen in the below table.
The Emergency Management Department is located within the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff serves as the Director and Chris Fitzsimmons serves as the Coordinator. The Emergency Management Department plans for and responds to disasters such as droughts, wildfires, winter storms and floods that take place in Gilliam County.
